How to appropriately wear a mini dress

How short is too short? That’s the question always popping in my mind whenever I am about to buy a new mini dress or skirt. I’m usually a midi dress kind of person, but this cute little one stole my heart. I’ve seen so many different polka dotted dresses this summer that I thought I should add one to my wardrobe. It might be the shortest dress I own, but somehow it was too cute to let go. Not having a problem with minis, but due to my skin problem, I am not able to wear certain things. However, during the weekend I fully embraced my flaws and stopped thinking of folliculitis. It’s not as bad as it used to be, in fact 80% of it is gone after following an IPL treatment. Anyways, besides the above mentioned, some of us don’t feel comfortable wearing minis after a certain age. Why so? Probably because they don’t seem appropriate anymore, or they look childish etc. The reasons can vary from person to person, but today I thought I should share three fail proof tips on how to make them look more appropriate.

1. Shoes matter

Opt for sneakers, flats or a pair of low heeled shoes. Don’t go running after your sky high heels, chances are they will look bad together.

2. Proportions

If you are baring your legs, covering your arms will help balance up the entire look. Go for a long sleeved mini dress instead of a short sleeved one.

3. Style it with a small bag

Mini dresses and mini bags might be a match made in heaven. Style your mini with a micro bag and you’ll thank me later.

Those are the three fail proof rules I always follow when wearing a mini dress and I really hope they will help you too. How would you wear a mini dress?

P.S. Don’t be a stranger, let’s connect on Instagram as well.

  2. I agree, that if super short, I prefer flat shoes and to create that balance by having longer sleeves. Definitely a good call. Looking like a French darling in this look hon!

You’re just so chic, I envy you lol! I agree completely, though I’m still guilty of carrying an oversized bag around all the time. Proportions are important! I lean towards long sleeves anyway, but it the dress has shorter sleeves, I always pair it with a cardigan or sweater. It depends on the weather.

  9. These tips are on point – I always style short dresses with flats too because otherwise, it doesn’t come across as elegant at all!

This is look is so satisfying to look at, it’s something about the black and red with a touch of retro. I really love it! x

  12. I’m always overly conscious about the length of my dresses. I’m at the age where my hem lines need to be a little longer than they’ve ever been and I guess I’m ok with that. I could totally pull of this polka dotted dress, I’m loving the tips, shoes totally matter, these slingbacks are perfect for this dress. The idea of styling it with a small bag is genius.
