A fashion forward way to styling a suit

It’s incredible how a perfectly tailored suit can turn our look into a polished one in just a heart beat, but how can we style this staple in a fashion forward manner?! One of the easiest ways to dressing up a power suit is by pairing it with a fitted white button down shirt. But since I’m not into fitted shirts, I had to opt for an oversize style with long cuffs. If you love these shirts like I do, but you can’t find any of them on the market, then look for a basic white button down shirt and size it up two or three times. It will work like a charm! Could you guess mine was size 40 and not 34 ? So what else should we do to step up our tailored suit? Pair it with unexpected shoes and accessories. Made mine work with one of the biggest trends of the moment: lace up corsets.

Before trying out corsets, you should have in mind that they can be a little uncomfortable, so opt for one in a soft fabric which also comes with a lace up detail instead of buttons or zippers. The advantage of the lace up ones is that you get to decide on how tight or loose you want them. Tied mine to the max just to be sure I won’t be overindulging on ice cream and got into these white fishnet socks I’ve been hunting for ages. Unexpected shoes and small on trend accessories made the outfit look fashion forward. It was fun mixing timeless pieces with highly popular ones. What do you think of the over all outfit? xx

  7. First, I love red on you. Not many people can pull of red the way you do. This is a beautiful outfit. I love how you styled it.
I wore my white corset with a black turtleneck and suit jacket and loved it. I thin it adds an extra bit of detail for something that can come off as looking too serious. 🙂

  15. Red suit is already a rare and statement piece and by styling it in such an edgy and interesting way, you have def made it high fashion. Love the red and white color combo and the corset belt and fishnet socks def adds edgy vibe. I’m dying over the Gucci sneaks, the more I see them the more I want to own a pair!!

I love how you paired this!I would never think to pair a suit with sneakers and it looks so good. And you cannot go wrong with a red suit. It stands out and the way you wore it looks chic for any occasion.

  21. First of all, I literally adore the look you’ve created. It can be rather hard to find a perfectly tailored suit, especially now. But this one is just fab! I love the way you style it with a pair of Gucci trainers. It’s definitely the best choice for such a classy suit. And I really like the idea to add this lace up corset! Very chic!

  22. When I see long or oversized white shirts, I remember you. Love how you used the lace up belt or corset , I would purchased a similar one but I can’t see me with that . Love the white fishnets add a finest and different touch .

  23. I really adore this red suit on you! I don’t own a pant suit set only a shirt suit set! I truly love this one! The corset shirt you paired with it is amazing as well! TBH I had no idea that these style shirts actually worked as corsets. I, for what ever reason, just assumed they were props so to speak! So I learned something new from this post! Such perfect style!

  24. Dear Andrea,
I truly love this entire outfit. Red is definitely my favorite color to wear and this suit is one I would love to own. I love the idea of the oversized blouse and that’s a great idea to take a classic and but it larger. I’m not a fan of just a traditional shirt either. The corset is a great addition and not a trend I’ve tried yet but I really should ! The white fishnets just take this outfit into a beyond amazing realm!!

  25. As I have a hard time wearing a suit just the way it is I love what you did here! You took an oversized shirt and tossed out the button down one and then chose a bold red color which makes the outfit both stick out and is bold, but an incredibly beautiful red color at that! I don’t think I even need to mention how much I love the fact that you paired the suit with sneakers, and not just any sneakers. My faves!

  27. I swear- every time, I think no way will this new fashion trend look good on anyone, you prove me wrong! I’ve definitely seen so many of these corset belts on IG and blogs lately, but you made it look the most fashionable by far! I love how you mixed such a good mix of feminine yet more masculine pieces to keep the look on-trend and so edgy. And in your signature red no less, no easy feat! I don’t think I’m quite adventurous enough yet to try the corset look but am feeling definitely inspired by your oversized white dress shirt idea. Another pro of it besides looking super fresh? All the better to hide my food baby LOL!

  28. For me, after having my child, I didn’t enjoy wearing fitted tops either and I realized that tailoring my clothing was the way to go. I also know that the perfect corset, while uncomfortable- as you mentioned – can be a great way to cinch in the waist, and give me some shape. I never thought about the flexibility of a lace-up, always thinking I needed something just TIGHT, but you make a lot of sense. A lace-up gives you options. Xo, Jessica

  29. Size 40? wow, seems a big difference between 40 to 34. I feel like I would swim in it. Hehe, I usually wear XS and for oversized go for S, because M would look too big. I never owned a suit in my life, because of my small shoulders and wide hips. hard to find anything. But I love your red suit and believe you look fantastic in red~ But I also never wear fitted clothes, cuz I feel not very comfortable to move around, unless it is pants, then I am fine.
