How to wear a dress over pants in 2017

Do you find yourself recycling old shooting locations? I surely do, and I never regret it. It would be such a pity to find a cool spot and use it only for once. Whenever I find a new location I get extremely excited and would love to get all my outfits shot in the same spot, but that would be kinda boring. Although it doesn’t hurt to reuse some of those old cool places every now and then. That’s what happened today. Remember the cute little red old car I’ve found in April? Where else could I have shot this striped dress if not near the red beast? They go together like bacon and eggs, and gosh I shouldn’t mention food when I’m starving.

Now back to the serious stuff, today I have decided to try one of the trends I’ve been staying away from: dress over pants. Why didn’t I try it yet? No idea, probably because I only own about ten dresses which I have bought over the years. Got some of them while I was in high school, so yeah, I got an excuse for being so late on this bandwagon. But to my defense, I’m taking baby steps into fixing the “problem” and started by getting some new dresses. This is one of those I mentioned in the previous post and I pretty much love it. That’s not only because it’s red, striped and midi, but also because it has fun shoulders. Besides the above mentioned, it’s also extremely flowy and easy to style. It worked like a charm with these white suit pants and I’d also love wearing it with mom jeans.

So if you’re planning on trying the trend anytime soon and would like to start with a similar dress, then I’d suggest pairing it with some skinny jeans or sleek trousers. Although, it can also be mixed with wide leg pants as long as the waist is accentuated. That can be done with a belt or corset. However, layering a loose dress over a pair of trousers would be the stress free effective option which would take you from day to night. Did you try the trend yet? xx

  32. This look is so perfect! I would’ve never thought about layering a dress this length over pants but it looks so chic and effortless. I love the elements of red in this look and in the background and also your hair tied back like this.

  33. How do you look so good wearing this dress over pants trend? I’ve tried it before and I just do not like how small and short I look. Maybe I should ditch the boot cut pants and try a pair of leggings or sleek trousers like you suggest. Btw, recycling shoot locations is totally acceptable. Especially when that red car is so adorable and has such a cute rustic charm. I go back to old shoot locations all the time!

  34. Normally, I don’t wear the dress over pants. However, how you mixed and matched is very pretty! Also, love your sunnies girl! So retro!

I’m the same as you! I always want to use the same spot when i find a cool location but i try to space out when i post so people don’t notice it haha.
I’ve been a real fan of pinstripe dress shirts as of lately too and I recently posted a similar outfit but it was in black and white instead of red. It’s just so flattering and it elongates your figure and makes you look so feminine and put together.
The woven bag just reminds me of something so innocent to be honest, like you can carry flowers in it and it makes the look so complete.
    absolutely gorgeous babe

  36. You are just so adorable! I haven’t tried this trend but this post is inspiring me to do so! This dress is adorable and yes, it only made sense to go back and shoot next to that adorable red car and of course holding flowers!

  40. I can totally relate, when I find a good spot to shot I go back always especially when I have no time to scout new spots. I love the trend dresses over pants but I don’t think I can pull it off so beautiful as you. Love the stripe dress, I have a similar one but mine has off the shoulder sleeves. This whole look is so beautiful, it reminds me of Parisian girls. Are you sure you ain’t Parisian ? Stunning !

  45. I’m so with you in getting excited about new shoot locations! I shoot in the same town most often so it can certainly get challenging to switch it up! This car is absolutely perfect for this look! I love your tip about starting with trousers! Probably the perfect way to ensure that you don’t miss the mark by a mile when starting to layer this way. I am still feeling hit or miss with this trend. It has to be the perfect dress! I literally just posted a dress over jeans look today though! Anyways, I adore this dress beyond measure and your shoes are perfect as well! I’ve been really obsessed with all hues in the red family lately! Perfect!

  46. Just like reusing outfits, we should get better at reusing great locations. What I’m wondering though is, does that car just stand there all the time? I mean, is it not in use at all? Whatever the answer is, I’m glad you found it again as I remember your last shoot with this car as a backdrop and it’s perfect for this dress over the pants look with colors matching so well with it. The pictures turned out really stunning babe!

Hi, love your style! I got a question though. I got the same dress from zara, only wore it twice. The second time I was wearing it I noticed that some reddish paint from the red stripes was smudging on to the white stripes! I thought I must have spilled something. When I tried to remove it with cold water, the sink and all the white stripes turned pink. And the instructions said to machine wash it up to 30 degrees. Had to return the dress despite really liking it. What about you, have you tried washing it?

    1. Hi, Nikki! Actually I am surprised to hear that. Worn it 5-6 times and washed it after every use. Didn’t experience discoloration or anything similar :/.
